The analysis of research relevant to children’s playfulness: Focused on internal journals and theses (1994～2008)

|
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the papers published in internal journals and theses, both relevant to the playfulness, from 1994 to 2008. The number of articles used is 111 (42 papers and 69 theses). They are categorized and analyzed by the criteria of the research contents, the research objects, the combination of objects, chronological classification, and grouped by the source, the research methodology and the data analysis methods. The followings are the results from the analysis. 1. Most of the researches on the playfulness are subjected to infants and there is no study focused on juveniles 2. The classification by the research object shows that articles focusing on only children are majority while minimal number of studies focused both on parents and children. 3. According to the chronological classification, there is a trend after 1994 that articles studying about the playfulness is increasing and the number of those articles is rapidly increased since the run up to 2000. 4. Most of the degree papers were done by members of graduate schools or graduate school of education. It was also shown that a majority of the degree papers were published in the journals of The Korean Association For Play Therapy or of Korea Open Association For Early Childhood Education in some cases. 5. The classification by the research methodology shows that majority of research uses the methods of investigation. On the contrary, less studies use the documentary research method. 6. The classification by the data analysis method shows that the methods of contents analysis are most frequently used and only one research refers to literature review. Also, as for the methods of statistical analysis, descriptive statistics, and t-test are mainly used. In the journal articles, the methods of contents analysis are only used. 7. The classification by the research contents shows that, in the papers on journals, research mainly focuses on the relations between the playfulness and social emotion as well as personality. Similarly, in the theses, the research on social emotion is most frequently published.
